The Cornwall, UK-based badman Defazed has been turning many a head over the past couple years as he has continued to develop his own irresistible signature sound. Hard hitting dancefloor
vibes, intense variation, and dark basslines juxtaposed with uplifting-yet-sinister melodies make Defazed one of the most exciting rising forces in drum and bass. Here’s what’s in store...

‘Fallout’

Defazed opens his C2D debut with a menacing exploration of sonic space - ‘Fallout’ - a no-nonsense tune which delivers a chill- ing glimpse of a cataclysmic future. Steady, sharp drums and bleak atmospherics set the tone throughout the intro as a forebod- ing mutant reece twists teasingly underneath, hinting at the trauma to come. Defazed offers the listener only a moment’s respite as this neurofunk bomb approaches its catastrophic impact; a moment so severe, it’s bound to send chills down every spine, malignantly reprogramming the minds and bodies of all on the dancefloor with its murderous bass and unrelenting rhythms. Such is the nature of Fallout.

‘Headspace’

Next up, ‘Headspace’ takes us on a tumultuous aural journey which will leave you battered and abused in the best of ways. Warming up with powerful drums, warm pads, and a dark sci-fi synth melody, headspace drops into a relentless groove charac- terized by unabating tearing bass and violent drum rhythms. Amidst a backdrop of futuristic uplifting melodies, Defazed dem- onstrates his talent for dynamics with basslines that push and pull listeners against their will. Like gravity itself, ‘Headspace’ is a force of nature - insurmountable, however hard you may try.

‘Cruel World’

Living up to its name, the third track on Silent Afflictions EP paints a bleak picture of a cold, dark world, unforgiving to all its in- habitants. An eerie harp sets the tone at the outset, a melody extracted from the beginning of a nightmare. Halftime drums ramp things up before smashing into a vicious breakdown marked by dark, electric bass, an impressive demonstration of Defazed’s knack for sound design. Kicking into full swing, the drop delivers the goods with a forceful, driving groove defined by piercing drums and a mean, subtly modulated reece. ‘Cruel World’ is a dangerous concoction filled with palpable anger - a stark picture of a world gone wrong.

‘Sentinel’

Defazed wraps up Silent Afflictions EP with a sinister dancefloor stomper with a distinctly fun vibe. That is, if ferocity and dark- ness is your forte... ‘Sentinel’ takes hold of the listener with an immediately addictive drop - pulsating, multi layered bass and upbeat drums converge in an irresistibly catchy groove. Defazed’s dedication to variation is more than apparent with shrewd bass mutations, clever glitches, melodic changes, and massive rhythmic switch-ups defining the track’s sound, keeping all who hear it on their toes. After smashing through the first half of the tune, Defazed continues to push the envelope musically, adding new sounds and melodies into the mix during the breakdown before delivering another inescapable drop. Closing out the EP, ‘Sentinel’ leaves listeners beat up and worn out...yet aching for more. No doubt, Defazed will continue to deliver; keep your eyes peeled.
